There is something about the power of numbers.

Our family has always been familiar with that concept. Being a family of twelve, there are a lot of numbers associated with us: lots of boxes of cereal in the cupboard, lots of diapers changed, lots of seats in the van (shout-out to our trusty 15 passenger vans over the years!), lots of missing socks, lots of personalities, lots of laughter, and lots of birthday parties in a single year. Some might call it chaos. They’re not wrong, but we like to call it entertainment. (Of course the quality of said entertainment depends upon the day and which one of us you’re asking!)

10K to Flight is made up of 10 original Baldwin family members and three spouses who married into the–ahem–entertainment. Our band began to form when Tim Baldwin (dad), sensed the Holy Spirit was calling the family back into music ministry years after Pony Baldwin (mom) & kids were mostly done performing concerts–or so we thought! What we assumed was the closing of a season turned out to be a rich hiatus where the Lord has done much growing, re-arranging, training, and strengthening in us. We are looking forward with great fear and trembling to even more pruning and priming as we say “Yes!” to the Lord and move forward in faith, cheerfully recognizing that we have no other choice than to rely on Him.

After the initial inkling that the Lord was up to something, form began to take shape as we asked ourselves “Why is God asking us to do this together, as opposed to each of us serving Him in our own spheres of influence?” This led to conversations, arising out of our Biblical understanding, about unity and the resulting exponential power. Looking into Scripture, a pattern began to reveal itself.

  • Joshua 23:10 says, “One man of you puts to flight a thousand, since it is the Lord your God who fights for you, just as he promised you.”

  • Leviticus 26:8 says, “Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall chase ten thousand, and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.”

  • Deuteronomy 32:30 says, “How could one have chased a thousand, and two have put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had given them up?”

Joshua and Leviticus speak about God fighting for His people, Israel. In Deuteronomy, it speaks of God removing His hand of protection because of Israel’s disobedience. There are numerous stories in Scripture, in addition to these, that reveal this truth: When God is involved, a multiplication factor takes place.

We asked ourselves, “If a single person can put to flight ONE THOUSAND of God’s enemies, and two can put to flight TEN THOUSAND, how many can ten thousand put to flight?”

The answer is astounding—nearly impossible to comprehend! It lies somewhere between Googol ( 10^100, or 1 with 100 zeros after it), and infinity. The actual number of how many ten thousand warriors can put to flight using that formula is 100 x Googol squared, or 10^10,002.

Can you imagine?

We want to be a part of those ten thousand warriors, and we pray you’ll join us. And let us be clear–the war is not against people. Ephesians 6:12 tells us exactly who the enemies are: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

Much love,

10K to Flight

“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”
